BELLBOTTOM (2021) – Hindi – Review – Vishwanath Rajasekaran

  • Released date: 19th August 2021
  • Language: Hindi
  • Runtime: 2hr 3mins
  • Genre: Action, Thriller
  • VR Rating: 7/10

Bell Bottom, inspired by real-life hijacking events in the 1980s in India particularly, the 1984 Indian Airlines jetliner IC 421 hijacking.

In 1984, One of the Indian Airlines traveling from India to Pakistan was hijacked and taken to Lahore. This incident was the fifth time an Indian flight getting hijacked in the last seven years tenure of Indira Gandhi as Prime minister.

RAW decides to break the pattern that happened in the last four hijackings; hence they appoint Anshul Malhotra, one of their undercover agents known by his code name Bell Bottom who has done more studies on the hijacked flights plus their pattern. He took this mission personally because his mother capitulated to death during one of the hijacked flights traveling from New Delhi to Lahore.

The ministry and the officials at first reject theories and observations of Bell Bottom but take in when his noticings go true. The hijacked flight was taken to Dubai as predicted. The hijackers want to negotiate with Indian officials.

What happens next? Did the mission was successful in saving the hostages and arrested the hijackers is the remaining part of Bell Bottom.

  • Gripping screenplay.
  • The cinematography, CGI is spoken well on the screen.
  • The acting of Akshay Kumar as Bell Bottom, Vanni Kapoor as Akshay’s wife, Lara Dutta as Indira Gandhi, Huma Qureshi as Indian Spy of Dubai is plausible.

  • The commercial elements were a bit bored like the first 20mins.
  • The songs that did not create an aura made the screenplay a bit slow-moving, noting it was desperately written to give the 2hr runtime.

Overall, Bell Bottom is a commercial entertainer furthermore it has an engaging screenplay. It will not bore you for a weekend or Friday night movie.

PS: Please watch the movie on a high definition or 4K enabled screen with Dolby surrounded speakers to feel the aura. I watched the series with High definition with HDR enabled screen along with Dolby surround speakers.
