Kingdom takes place in the Joseon period where the king falls ill to smallpox and rumors spreading that he has actually died. In the meantime, Crown Prince Lee Chang is labeled as a traitor by the Haewon Cho Clan: the followers of the pregnant queen and her father, a chief state councilor Cho Hak Joo to take the crown illegally. Also, the clan silently started to label traitors and kills all the people including the advisors of a kingdom who tries to know the secret of the king’s treatment and dug them deep into the lake near to the kingdom.

To uncover the mystery of his father’s ill, the crown prince seeks his guard Moo Young’s help to get a doctor journal from the king’s den. When he found out about the resurrection by a distant Physician Lee Seung Hui. As he left for his clinic, the prince and his guard plan to leave the city to the clinic at Jiyulheon to speak to him.

But, when they reach the place, it was completely washed out with a mysterious disease. Later they come to know from Physician Lee Seung Hui’s assistant Physician Seo Bi and the mysterious man, Young Shin that the dead are coming alive, hunting the peoples at night and stay dead alike during sunlight. They convey that the disease came from the capital city Hanyang. The prince understands that spreading disease was caused though his father’s resurrection. The people of Jiyulheon and the prince Chang stayed the night at the clinic as few corrupted officials and the governor escapes in a boat to Sanju without taking all survivors.

The next morning, the Cho guards arrive and kill most of the survivors as traitors. Chang counterattacks but has to escape into the forest. He decides to seek help in the realm of his old mentor, an old nobleman that lives in seclusion after the death of a loved one. The mentor understands the disease and decides to unite his forces with prince Chang.

Meanwhile in the palace at Hanyang, the undead King is being held captive by the Cho clan and fed young maidens as food. The young Queen waits for the baby boy to be born, but something is wrong with her pregnancy. Pregnant lonely women, without any family, are being rounded up and taken to the royal palace where the Cho clan feeds them generously.

Will the new baby be a boy? Will he or she survive birth? Why pregnant women are treated generously in the Kingdom? And how will the undead plague be stopped now it spread beyond Jiyulheon? Will prince Chang prove his father is dead and condemn the outrage the Cho clan created?

Episode 1 will explain about the politics, outrages of the Cho clan and parallels the hunger within the people of the country. At first, we would think that the first episode is skeptical and mystical as we wouldn’t know what is happening. In later episodes, the background behind the mystery of the disease unfolds.

The series Kingdom intrigues with an impressive and eye-catchy backdrop. It was crafted very well with the aura and the flavors of Asian. The later episodes where the Zombies come into action-packed, the scenes are sensation, and the camera angles are engaging us to be traveling with it.

As soon as the mysterious plague spreads in the country and the dead mutate into man-eating beasts, the adrenaline-soaked zombie rush finally begins. The action pack started with horrifying instances armed with swords, bows and arrows, and firearms, there is a lot of fighting and shredding without Kingdom drifting too far into the horror genre.

The characters, each character have given their weighted performance, I am not able to express more as the zombies have bagged the star performer. I thought the makeup will make us laugh, but zombies along with the music and background score, it made the table flipped. What a music, from the start with the theme music to the end credits, it was marvelous. I will say that music is also the hero of the series apart from the story and the screenplay.

The writer has tremendously given a wonderful political, horror drama with one side of the gorgeous kingdom with political issues and one side of zombies with horrifying instances. The end climax cliff hanger will leave hungry for season 2 of the Kingdom.

Being a Korean series Kingdom, It has won hearts with its own culture of action-packed and horrifying instances. It is worth to stream it. I suggest the viewers to stream it in its original language as the dubbed English version is terrible, it will not match to the subtitles.
