The Devil all the time is adapted from the novel with the same name by Donald Ray Pollak. He narrates the movie entirely. The story explains the characters which connect one another and explains how bad things can a human being do in the name of a god or for god (Whichever we understand) and how it protects his own. The movie is directed by Antonio Campos.

The Devil All the Time story begins in 1945 when a United States soldier, Willard Russell (Bill Skarsgård) returns to his hometown after serving his country during World War II. Arriving home, his mother, Emma Russell (Kristin Griffith), tries to set him up with a girl named Helen Hatton (Mia Wasikowska). However, Willard Russell's have fallen for Charlotte (Haley Bennett), a waitress, and got married. The fate then matched Helen Hatton with a priest named Roy Laferty (Harry Melling). Due to some tragedies, both the couple are dead, their children, Arvin Russell (Tom Holland) and Lenora Laferty (Eliza Scanlen), are now in the care of Emma Russell. The story pushes forward.

Also, Carl (Jason Clarke) and Sandy Henderson (Riley Keough), a husband-and-wife team of serial killers, who roam in America's highways searching for the right models to photograph and kill them. Their photos are their momentums.  Rev. Preston Teagardin (Robert Pattinson), A paster took over the church of Meade recently who has a poisonous mouth, flirts, and rapes the young girls of the town in the name of god. Deputy Lee Bodecker (Sebastian Stan), A corrupt deputy of the town trying to get into the position of Mayor and brother to serial killer Sandy Henderson.

Arvin Russell, a good young chap feels aggravated when his all loved ones are being killed like his dog, mother, and father. Hence, he kept his grandmother, uncle, and his step-sister who is their residual family kept close to him and protected them always.

What happens when the serial killer couple, Paster, Deputy comes into his life?

The storyline can be easily identified and guess how the screenplay would be from the narrative given by the novel writer himself that the movie is going to revolve some set of characters. The takeover was really massive to the big screen from the novel with brutal and bloody scenes. However, the director used violent scenes throughout the movie with family values, spiritual faith or belief, morality. The screenplay moves back and forth between past and present to make us up to the speed which will be tough for some to understand.

The characters are stripped into each layer like dark souls, behaviors, crimes, and corrupt to give more impact among the viewers. The characters have given their standalone and appreciable performance especially Melling and Robert Sebastian have stolen the topper record performance to their side. The scenes at which Robert’s performance as a priest flirting the young underage girls and giving away reasons for spiritual belief for his behavior. Melling’s performance who kills his wife thought of having an ability to bring her back with the help of god’s will, the entire screen was paused for a while, it was very gripping and intriguing.

The cinematography and the background score was applaudable. It was dark, ominous, and gripping. One thing which I really felt boredom is the runtime, it was 138mins, off course, this kind of explanation requires such runtime but if this movie comes in a series with added fuels to the serial killer duo and the priest’s dark mode, The Devil all the time would be the killer dark crime, drama.

Overall, This is only likable to those who like the dark drama and Psychological thriller genre. To me, every human being has one devil inside, we have covered the devil with our skin and smile. What happens when it explodes?
