The series is inspired in the case of a Dutch drug dealer Janus van W ran an illegal XTC network from a Belgian camping site and was arrested in 2009 following an undercover operation. Netflix produced the season with ten episodes with a runtime of 50mins per episode.

STORY:

The Belgian Federal Police is tracking one of the heads of the largest worldwide XTC networks. The Dutch Ferry Bouman (Lammers) is the head of this network. He spends his weekdays in his fortress inside the city with heavy security and weekends in a simple cabin on a campsite in Belgium along with his lovable wife Daniele surrounded by his friends and relations. Bouman is indescribable and untouchable, so the Belgian and Dutch police decide to infiltrate. They send their two best undercover agents, the Belgian Bob Lemmens (Waes) and Dutch Kim de Rooij (Drijver) as a couple to the campsite. Their mission is clear. They must be able to infiltrate the lives of Bouman and his wife Danielle (Schaap) and gain their trust. Only then, they can able to catch them during their smuggling. However, it is not all going according to plan.

Ferry Man as a Dutch drug dealer Janus van W

Interesting Factor:

Although the series is inspired by the true incident, the writer has made some changes to give a visual representation of crime, thriller genre. The series of 10 episodes, each one will give some legitimacy for the viewers to watch till the end. No Unwanted characters, No-subplots for deviating the story. This will make us be engaged to the end of the series, one thing which felt shoddier is the draggy screenplay. If the episodes are cut off to 8, then it will be more intriguing. Except for a few instances, rest were missed to be embraced.

HIGHLIGHTS WHICH I LIKED:

The episodes were Bob got affianced with the smuggling activity, Meanwhile, due to his AWOL, the Belgian narcotics trying to engage on Ferry which gets abort in the edge fraction of seconds was boundless. The climax scene was prodigious, heretofore, the screenplay moves very slowly, we will be shown the search party of the police and the engagement party of Bob and Kim simultaneously.

Casting and Acting:

Anna Drijver and Tom Waes as an undercover couple started with a quarrel end with a love, their chemistry was worth watching on the screen. Raymond Thiry as John, all in all for Ferry: His acting is appreciable. He speaks through his eyes when he killed his son-in-law was wonderful. Last but not the least, Ferry Bouman (Frank Lammers), he is indescribable, he was swimming into the ocean knowingly that he can be caught by the shark (police) at any point of time. His distinctive acting was noteworthy.

Bob and Kim

Music and background score:

The background score has traveled along with the screenplay, not worthy to be appreciated. Not absorbed like Marcella season 2.

VR Critique Meter: ⭐1/2 (Rating:2.5/5)

Conclusion:

Being draggy screenplay from the start, those vanished with the strong writing and good scenes which gives edge seating experience. Considering all those, Undercover is worth to watch. Also, Netflix has announced that there is going to be another season.
